Total CMS extension

Snap Albums extension

Sort your Total CMS images into albums: drag, select and reorder on one admin page, then show any album as a gallery on your site. Your images are never moved or changed. Free, with Pro coming soon.

What it does

Organise your image library into albums

Total CMS keeps every image in one long list, which gets hard to manage once a site has a few hundred. Snap Albums lets you sort them into albums, the way you would in a photo app.

An image can be in **as many albums as you like**, and albums never move, copy or change your images. Each album keeps **its own order** and a **cover** image, and **Unsorted** shows the images that aren't in an album yet. Open **Snap Albums** in the admin sidebar, click to select images (Shift-click for a run, or select every result at once), then add them to albums, move them or remove them. On a wider screen, drag images straight onto an album in the list beside them. Every change has an **Undo** button for 15 minutes. To show an album on a page, add **one line**: Snap Albums comes with a ready-made gallery, with options for size, shape, captions and links. Or build your own with three Twig functions. It's for anyone with a growing image library: project photos, events, products or a portfolio. Free, on any edition of Total CMS.

Everything you need to stay organised

Organise

Albums, not folders

An image can be in as many albums as you like. Albums never move, copy or change your images, and a deleted image simply leaves its albums.

Albums

Your order, your cover

Each album keeps its own order and a cover image. Drag albums and images into order, or use the arrow keys.

Admin

Fast sorting

Click or Shift-click to select, select every result at once, or drag images onto an album. Undo any change for 15 minutes.

Find

Unsorted and search

Unsorted shows images that aren't in an album yet. Search image names and alt text; long lists show 120 images a page.

Pages

A gallery in one line

The built-in gallery has options for size, shape, captions and links. Or build your own with three Twig functions.

Team

Editors welcome

What you'll need

Snap Albums works on any edition of Total CMS 3.6 or later. It organises Total CMS's image collection, and any other image collection you name in its settings. Albums are kept in Snap Albums' own data file, so your images are never moved, copied or changed. Its only outside contact is a check for updates, which sends no site data.

Release notes

Latest releases

v1.3.0

28 October 2026 · minor · Requires Total CMS 3.6.0+

Thumbnails made ahead of time, and (Pro) upload photos straight into an album.

Added

  • Thumbnails are made ahead of time, so a big or newly uploaded library no longer opens with blank tiles that fill in one by one: every 10 minutes in the background (needs Total CMS's scheduled tasks), and while the Albums page is open
  • New setting: Prepare thumbnails in the background (on by default)
  • Pro: upload straight into an album. Drop photos on an album page or an album's card, or click Upload images; each file becomes a new image and goes into that album in one step, with a progress list
  • Pro licence key setting (Snap Albums Pro, or the Speedy Websites Pro Bundle)

Changed

  • Snap Albums now asks for the Automations permission, for thumbnails in the background
Upgrade notes

After updating, Total CMS leaves the new Automations permission off. Switch it on under Settings → Extensions → Snap Albums so thumbnails are made in the background; the Albums page reminds you while they're behind.

v1.2.0

28 October 2026 · minor · Requires Total CMS 3.6.0+

Filter and sort your images, and find every image with no alt text.

Added

  • Filters on All images, Unsorted and album pages: in no album or in 2 or more, shape (landscape, portrait, square) and upload month
  • A No alt text filter, with a count, to find the images whose captions are blank and that screen readers can't describe
  • Sort by newest, oldest, name or largest file; an album also sorts by its own order
  • Filters work with search, and Select all N selects exactly the images they match

Changed

  • Reorder only shows on an album in its own order, unfiltered
Upgrade notes

Nothing to do when updating.

v1.1.2

28 October 2026 · patch · Requires Total CMS 3.6.0+

The Albums page now uses the full width of the screen.

Fixed

  • The Albums page now uses the full width: Total CMS's admin limits lists to a text-column width, so albums and images showed only three across even on a wide screen
  • Album card names sit inside the card again, with their padding
Upgrade notes

Nothing to do when updating.
