How to Take Class, Event and Accommodation Bookings on a Total CMS Site

Yoga classes, pottery workshops, a training course, a holiday cottage: plenty of small businesses need people to book, and most booking services charge a monthly fee and send customers off to someone else's website. If your site runs on Total CMS, our Relay Queue extension takes bookings right on your own pages, with everything managed in your own admin.

Two kinds of booking

Relay Queue works two ways:

  • Classes and events. You create a session with a fixed number of spots, and visitors book one or more of them. You set the most one booking can take.
  • Accommodation and anything booked by date range. You set how many identical units you have (rooms, cabins, equipment) and visitors pick their own check-in and check-out dates. Relay Queue checks availability night by night, with minimum and maximum stays.

You stay in control

Every booking is held as pending until you approve it. Pending and confirmed bookings both count against capacity, and the booking page shows how many spots are left. Change a booking's status on the Relay Queue page and the customer is emailed automatically.

When a session is full, new bookings go to a waitlist instead of being turned away. When several bookings arrive together, the earliest gets the spot.

Emails that send themselves

Customers get an email when they book, when you confirm them, if a booking is cancelled or can't be accepted, and a reminder before the day. They go through your own Total CMS Mailer, and Setup creates the templates in your business name and colours.

The booking form on any page

Put the form wherever suits your site: a ready-made booking page, a Site Builder block, a Twig function, or a [booking-form] shortcode in any content area.

Going Pro: payments and more

Relay Queue is free to download and use. Relay Queue Pro ($46.95 AUD, one-off) adds:

  • Stripe payments when people book, full price or a deposit
  • A customer page to add the booking to their calendar or cancel online
  • A waitlist that moves up automatically when a place frees up
  • Repeating classes and events in a few clicks
  • Printable attendee lists and CSV export

One licence covers every site you build, for every 1.x release, with no subscription.

What you need

Relay Queue needs Total CMS 3.5 or later on the Pro edition, PHP 8.2+, and Total CMS's automations cron job running, since that's what sends the emails and reminders. Its Setup page creates the collections and email templates for you and checks the cron job. Stripe payments need your own Stripe account; Setup walks you through connecting it.

Try it

Have a go on our Relay Queue demo: the classes and stay are made up, so nothing is booked or charged.
