At Speedy Websites, we recently completed a big project for Rosebery Fabrics: moving their existing online store from WooCommerce to Shopify. This wasn't a fresh start with a handful of products — it was an established store with a large catalogue that had to come across carefully, without losing what was already working.
Starting from an existing WooCommerce store
Rosebery Fabrics already had an online store running on WooCommerce. Moving platforms meant more than copying products across. Every product, category and page had to be reviewed and rebuilt to suit the way Shopify works, so the new store would be easier for the Rosebery Fabrics team to manage day to day.
300+ products and hundreds of swatches
The biggest job was the catalogue itself. The store has over 300 products, and many of them come in a range of fabric options — which added up to hundreds of individual swatches. For a fabric business, swatches are everything: customers need to see the colours and patterns clearly before they buy.
Each of those swatches had to be rebuilt in Shopify so that every colour and pattern showed correctly and linked to the right product option. It was detailed, careful work, but it's what makes the store genuinely easy to shop.
Making Shopify fit the business
Alongside the product rebuild, we customised the Shopify theme to suit Rosebery Fabrics' brand and the way their customers browse. We also set up:
- Distributor and dropshipping automation, ready for orders that need to be passed on to suppliers.
- A rewards program to give returning customers a reason to come back.
- Analytics, so the team can see how the store is performing.
Protecting search rankings
When a store changes platforms, its web addresses change too. To protect the search rankings Rosebery Fabrics had built up over time, we mapped the old WooCommerce URLs to their new Shopify equivalents and set up redirects. Customers and search engines following an old link still land in the right place.
The result
Rosebery Fabrics now has a Shopify store built around their full catalogue, with every product and swatch rebuilt, a customised theme, and the tools they need to keep growing online.
